چکیده

In this paper, we propose GeoRank, a geographic routing approach for the IPv6-enabled large-scale low-power and lossy networks. We discuss the main drawbacks of the RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks) for P2P (point-to-point) communication in large-scale 6LoWPAN networks. Then, we address such drawbacks by proposing a routing protocol, named GeoRank, which integrates RPL protocol with the position-based routing protocol GOAFR (Greedy Other Adaptive Face Routing). The results obtained with simulations show that GeoRank finds shorter routes than RPL in high link density conditions and than GOAFR in low link density conditions. Thus, GeoRank shows to be adaptive to variable link densities found in large-scale networks. Further, GeoRank avoids the use of DAO (Destination Advertisement Object) control messages required in RPL, while being more scalable in terms of memory usage than storing-mode RPL. 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Improving the Performance of RPL Routing Protocol for Internet of Things

The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) connects the physical world to the digital one and composes large networks of smart devices to support various applications. In order to provide a suitable communication in such networks, a reliable routing protocol is needed. In this paper, a modified version of an IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy networks (RPL), which has been standardized by...

RPL: IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks

Today, Low Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) represent one of the most interesting research areas. They include Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs), low-power Power Line Communication (PLC) networks and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Such networks are often optimized to save energy, support tra c patterns di↵erent from the standard unicast communication, run routing protocols over link laye...

A Comparative Study of the Routing Protocols LOAD and RPL in Low-power and Lossy Networks (LLN)

Routing protocols for sensor networks are often designed with explicit assumptions, serving to simplify design and reduce the necessary energy, processing and communications requirements. IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is a routing protocol specifically designed for Low power and Lossy Networks (LLN) compliant with the 6LoWPAN protocol. It currently shows up as an ...

A survey on RPL attacks and their countermeasures

RPL (Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks) has been designed for low power networks with high packet loss. Generally, devices with low processing power and limited memory are used in this type of network. IoT (Internet of Things) is a typical example of low power lossy networks. In this technology, objects are interconnected through a network consisted of low-power circuits. Exampl...

Composite Metrics for Routing in Low Power and Lossy Networks

IETF ROLL (Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks) Group proposes the RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for LLNs) for routing in low power and lossy networks. Though RPL is able to work on several routing metrics, the details of using these metrics are not completely specified in the standard. To meet different QoS requirements of the applications, adopting proper routing metrics is essential. In t...
